With a new year comes a new tradition.

I love photos!

It stems back to the tight and jelly shoe wearing days where I would never learn to share the radio with my brother as well as other items.

One day my mother bought us each a disposable camera.

I remember my brother running around clicking away on his like it was an endless film. I knew it was precious, from the first moment she placed it in my hands, I treasured this gift and only took photos I knew were worthy.

I take a lot of photos and while I’ve had a few photography posts on here, I want to show you each month of my life as I capture it.

With my Canon and instagram (username: Sylviet137) if you want to follow me. Warning: I rarely share images of food on Instagram, thats what this site is for.

2012 has passed me by quicker then the blink of an eye. I've been told by many that as you get older time goes faster, but I believe that is wrong, I believe time goes as faster with a busy schedule, no matter what age.

As I sit here with sunburned limbs and a tired soul from camping I know there isn’t many days left in this year, and with that I thought I would firstly sum up my year in photographs.

There were many to choose from, but I thought it best to break it down my photographs into separate collages of photos.

The first 3 are the best photos from every third of this year and the last images are my favorites from the only overseas travel I did this year, in Australia.

It’s been a few days since my last post and I have a good reason; I went on a long weekend to Wellington with a close friend.

So, there is no recipe, just pictures and a few tips on where to go and what to see in the Capital of this island nation.

If you travel to New Zealand and decide to go to the two biggest cities, you will find they are vastly different.

The largest city – Auckland – is spread out and difficult to get around without a vehicle, I live here and have found it’s a lot of little towns combined in a simply put way. The airport is an easy half hour trip from the central city and the traffic is precarious.

Beginning of the tunnel walk
Looking up and out
Hard rock cut out
I feel like this is ‘what I did over the weekend’ time on most of my posts at the moment, but I have been doing a lot and I might as well share photos of my explorations.

You see, even if I’m not getting on a plane, passport in hand, I’m exploring often. A month doesn’t usually go by without me driving off somewhere an hour or two away and wandering through landscapes new or old.

This weekend was no exception.

Every Sunday morning last winter I would get myself out of bed (on a good day before 8) and drive half an hour to a beach for a morning walk.

The wind would be cold.

The sand would be freezing to the point of not being able to feel my feet (I have a beach rule with no shoes).

And the waves would be harsh.

But at that time of the day it was mine. I shared this with no other souls and for a small handful of time the world was all my own.

With a holiday weekend comes extra time and I took the opportunity to return to the beach I have visited far too little this year and capture some images.

One of my oldest and closest friends currently lives in the countryside, most of the time he visits me in suburbia. I don’t like the countryside, I am in fact, a city girl. Today, however, I went to visit him and found a climbable tree, an activity I haven't found myself doing since I was a child.

It was a beautiful warm day unlike so many others that have come before it this year. The sky was clear, the sun hot on my rather pale skin, however, I decided to snap the pictures in black and white to capture the beautiful light I was surrounded with in and around this tree.

Wow, what a full on weekend!

So much so that I have to put it into two parts for your photographic enjoyment.

Despite the lack of sleep prior to the hike; my friend Alli and I found our energy levels were high as we set off at 6am. We had the path to ourselves for all of twenty minutes before some rather energetic people passed us by; whom we never saw again.

The level of accomplishment after slightly more then seven hours of hiking is something I haven't felt too often in my life and I think it's something I should prioritize to feel more.
