An unfortunate event leads me to today's story.

On Sunday I went to the beach to meet up with a group of friends, the tide was well in, but we parked ourselves on the hot black sand and wandered over to cool off our feet in the water.

Soon enough a tidal wave came and proceeded to soak all of my belongings.

And now it’s been days since I’ve had a phone, it’s sitting in rice in all hope that it will come back to life.

Not having a phone to check my schedule, Instagram or text with has been difficult, it’s like missing something vitally important to continue life with (melodramatic?! slightly).

So…there’s three weeks left.

Three weeks until Christmas break and I’m in the office at 6.45am.

Ahh the end of year rush, there’s nothing like it.

I’m also having to give myself a pep talk as my alarm goes off for it’s second time because my eyes would much rather stay shut and I need to convince them otherwise.

This past weekend I decided to re-visit one of my absolute favorite places in this world, and what perfect timing for my friend needed a day away from the world after ending her relationship.

Spring has sprung and suddenly the many layers I’ve been wearing for what has been too long now can be stripped off.

Slowly and surely, the days get longer and a little warmer.

The trees are full of foliage once again and everything seems brighter.

Expectations for summer are put in place and the patience required for the free season to arrive is tested.

Beginning of the tunnel walk
Looking up and out
Hard rock cut out
I feel like this is ‘what I did over the weekend’ time on most of my posts at the moment, but I have been doing a lot and I might as well share photos of my explorations.

You see, even if I’m not getting on a plane, passport in hand, I’m exploring often. A month doesn’t usually go by without me driving off somewhere an hour or two away and wandering through landscapes new or old.

This weekend was no exception.

I wish I had pictures to show you of the fiesta.

I wish I could tell you that I had time to put up decorations.

I wish I had more practice at feeding crowds.

Alas, I cannot as my many hours spent in the kitchen making salsa from scratch.

Empanadas by hand.

And caramelizing sugar for dessert meant taking a moment to capture the festivities was something lost on me.

After all this it was a success. I will be attempting a Mexican fiesta another day.

The leftover from this lovely evening was a handful of limes remaining in the fruit basket, so I went on the hunt on what to do with these little green gems.

Coastal Statue above the Blue Waters
It was a holiday weekend which led me to follow the winding roads to visit a friend for the day. She lives two hours away and it was high time we caught up, especially considering I'm one third of her bridal party and details needed to be discussed.

As luck would have it she had a large fig tree in her backyard and we were led to getting out the pruning shears and cutting down the large figs tempting us.

There we were in the wild of her back garden cutting things out of our reach like little children, reaching up, up, up beyond our grasp.

The fingers are stained pink. Not like the usual pink from my naturally uber white skin.

Pink from the dark plums I had to peel in order to make this spread that originates in Germany. It's called Pflaumenmus or translated plum sauce.

This isn’t like a plum sauce that you would buy to accompany Western dishes as one vital ingredient - cloves - makes it something to eat on delicious hearty bread.

I’ve thought and thought about what else you could eat it with and I keep coming back to bread so best put, this is a kind of jam.

How many times have you gone grocery shopping only to come home with something unexpected?

There are more times then I can count where a trip to buy fruit and vegetables results in buying a discounted item where time has to be put aside to do something with this. The item the other day was a bag of apricots.

Immediately the mind turned to jam, a simple mixture of sugar, fruit and glass jars, but this has been something I’ve completed far too often recently so opted for a different approach.

As I sit here eating the last piece of the Tarte Tatin (recipe below) for breakfast, my room is still a scattered mess awaiting tidy up.

I'm sorry, I couldn't wait as this simple recipe leaves the taste buds yearning, asking, wanting more.

And the bonus, it can be made whenever you want. This is a no rules recipe that doesn't require particular fruit to make it with.

It's also a quick little number to cook while you're eating with friend's or catching up on the latest episode of a show.
